منذ أكثر من قرن ونصف، والدراسات الإستشراقية تفعل فعلها في تراثنا الفكري، لم تهمل شاردة منه ولا واردة إلاّ وتناولتها، ولم يقف الأمر عند ذلك، بل صنعت أكواماً من الكتب التي تعمّدت الإساءة إلى الإسلام والعروبة مما جعل التصدي لها مهمة علمية حتمية.
فالمستشرقون ليسوا فقط أكاديميين، وإنما لبسوا مسوح كل المهن والهوايات، فجاؤوا على شكل رحالة وهواة آثار وزراعيين، وأطباء وتربويين، ورهباناً، ومن هؤلاء الرهبان من اتخذ من التبشير جواز مرور إلى بلداننا، ولكنه لم يبشر أحداً أبداً، كما هو حال دوايت دونالدسن الذي مكث في إيران والعراق سنين طوال فبحث ونقّب وتحرَّى وراقب وتقصَّى، في تراث الشيعة، فخرج بكتاب شكَّل قاعدة معلومات ثرة لمن خَلْفه من طلاب الإستشراق والسياسيين، فكوفئ بأن منح شهادة الدكتوراه على عمل لا يرتقي قطعاً إلى مستوى تلك الشهادة، ولكنها كما قلنا، مكافأة.
هذا الكتاب الذي خرج به دونالدسن بعد كل ذلك السنين وذاك الجهد، عَنْوَنَه (دين الشيعة...)، إلاّ أن مترجماً من أسرة دينية تلقفه مبكراً ودأب على ترجمته، شق عليه أن يكون اسم الكتاب بالصيغة التي وضعها مؤلف الكتاب، فعمد إلى تغييرها فصار العنوان (عقيدة الشيعة...) ولأن اعتمادنا الرئيس على النسخة المترجمة فلا بد أن نعتمد عنوانها في دراستنا هذه، كما أنه الأكثر قرباً من الواقع فلم يكن الشيعة يوماً يرون أن معتقدهم دين جديد أو هم خارج ملة الإسلام، وعلى الرغم من ذلك فقد وضحنا في المبحث المخصص للكتاب إشكالية العنوان وتقصد دونالدسن اعتماد مفردة على الرغم من وجود غيرها وقد اعتمدها مستشرقون قبله ممن اعتمد على مؤلفاتهم، ما يؤسف له بحق، أن بعض علمائنا اغترفوا منه مخدوعين به دون أن يبلغوا الغاية التي تغيّاها مؤلف الكتاب، فصار عندهم مرجعاً ذا قيمة علمية وإعتبارية وما هو على ذاك الوصف من شيء.
لذا ولغيره من أسباب جمة، وجدنا أن المسؤولية تتطلب الغوص في الفكر الذي تحمله وتتمحور حوله تلك الدراسة، كما وفقنا في التصدي لغيره في دراسات عديدة سابقة بحثنا فيها مقاصد بعض المستشرقين وأشرنا إلى مكامن السوء في نتاجات البعض منهم.
