فرائد القلائد في مختصر شرح الشواهد للبدر العيني هو مختصر لكتاب المقاصد النحوية في شرح شواهد شروح الألفية للمؤلف نفسه.
وتعود أهمية الكتاب إلى قيمة الشواهد النحوية والصرفية، فإنَّ الكتاب شرح للشواهد الشعرية الواقعة في الشروح الأربعة لألفية ابن مالك، وهي (شرح ابن الناظم، وشرح المرادي، وشرح ابن هشام، وشرح ابن عقيل)، والألفية نظمٌ لابن مالك في النحو الصرف، لقيت القبول لدى العلماء، فحثُّوا طلاب العلم على حفظها، واعتنوا بشرحها وإعرابها، وكتابة التقريرات والحواشي عليها.
والعيني أحد هؤلاء الذين عُنُوا بالألفية، فشرح الشواهد التي في الشروح بكتابين هما "المقاصد النحوية" و"فرائد القلائد"، وكان شرحه في الكتاب الأول بطريقة تفصيلية، سَرَدَ فيه ما يتصل بالشواهد أدبيًّا وعروضيًّا ولغويًّا ونحويًّا، مستشهدًا بالقرآن الكريم والحديث النبوي الشريف وكلام العرب، معتمدًا على أُمَّات كتب النحو، أمَّا كتابه الثاني فهو مختصر لكتابه الأول، مع استدراكات عليه في الشواهد الشعرية وفي بعض الآراء والتوجهات.
وكان لفرائد القلائد أثر بالغ في عصر مؤلفه، فقد قرأه كثير من طلاب العلم، وأفاد منه العلماء كذلك، وتأثَّر به وبمنهجه مَنْ جاء بعده من العلماء.
