إنّ علوم العربية سبيل مهم لنيل العلوم الشرعية، ولا يمكن لمن يتعاطى علوم الشرع أن يقف على حقائق (الفقه والحديث وأصول الفقه وعلم أصول الدين وعلم التفسير) وهو لا يفقه علوم العربية وفنونها المختلفة، من (نحو وصرف وبلاغة ووضع)، ويحتل (علم الصرف) مكانةً عاليةً ومهمّة في علوم اللغة العربية، فهو العلم الذي يهتم بالبنية الصغيرة التي تسمى (الكلمة)، قبل أن تدخل في عملية الإسناد لتشكل تركيباً وجملةً، وبما أن ذات المفرد سابق على ذات المركب؛ فإن معرفة (الصرف) متقدمة على معرفة (النحو).
ولذا، أحس العلماء منذ بدايات دراساتهم أهمية تدوين علوم العربية، ومنها علم الصرف والتصريف، بدءاً بكتاب سيبويه ومروراً بالتصريف للمازني وشرحه المنصف لابن جني، ومؤلفات ابن جني، وإهتمامات عبد القاهر الجرجاني والزمخشري وابن الحاجب والرضى الأسترابادي وابن مالك الأندلسي وابن هشام الأنصاري والتفتازاني والسيد الشريف الجرجاني والسيوطي والأشنوي وغيرهم، وإنتهاءً بالمعاصرين ودراساتهم الكثيرة والمتنوعة وسيل البحوث المقدّمة في هذا العلم تدلُّ دلالةً واضحةً على مكانة العلم وأهميته وأثره في الفهم والإفادة.
