"العقد الجوهري" كتاب في النحو هو عبارة عن حاشية تتضمن شرح خالد الأزهري على الأجرومية التي وضعها العلامة تاج أبي العباس المعروف بإبن الحاج وسماها "العقد الجوهري من فتح الحي القيوم في حل شرح الأزهري على مقدمة إبن أجروم" وهو كتاب ينفرد بخصائص ومميزات، حيث استطاع المؤلف أن يشق طريقه إلى دارسي اللغة العربية بطريقة سهلة، واعتمد الإختصار لهذه المادة – النحو – بتذليل صعوباتها ووضعها أمام القارىء في صورة مبسطة من دون المس في النهج القديم.
والكتاب في مضمونه في أصول اللغة العربية الذي درّسه الأوائل للمبتدئين في كتب المطولات والتي يبدأون فيها بتفسير آي الذكر الحكيم لفظاً ومعنىً، حيث يورد المؤلف الكثير من الأمثلة ويضع لها شرحاً مع الأدلة، من القرآن والحديث الشريف، مقسماً الكتاب على أبواب منها: باب معرفة علامات الإعراب، باب الأفعال، باب مرفوعات الأسماء، باب الفاعل، وباب المفعول الذي لم يُسمَّ فاعله، وباب المبتدأ والخبر، وباب العوامل الداخلة على المبتدأ والخبر، باب النعت، وغيره من أبواب مثل العطف والتأكيد والبدل ومنصوبات الأسماء، والظروف: ظرف الزمان وظرف المكان. ثم الإستثناء والمنادى، والمفعول من أجله، والمفعول معه، ويختم بباب محفوظات الأسماء.
