لمّا كانت آراءُ سيبويه تُمثّل جزءاً من تُراثنا اللغويّ والنحويّ وتُعدُ مصدراً مهماً للدراسات اللغوية كان الوقوف عندها والبحث فيها ممّا يُحسُنُ؛ لأنّه يخلو من فائدة تتحصّل فضلاً عن أنّ سيبويه بآرائه أسّس للدرس اللغويّ والنحويّ قواعده، ولا سيّما وهي مبثوثة في كتابٍ غُضّ الطّرف عنه في الدراسات النحوية وهو كتاب أبي حيّان الأندلسي (ت 745هـ) الموسوم بـ (منهج السّالك في الكلام على ألفية ابن مالك).
وتكمن أهمية هذه الدراسة في التعامل مع هذه الآراء؛ فلم يكن أبو حيّان مقتصراً على النقل عن سيبويه وحسب وإنّما كان له رؤية في هذه الآراء مرجحاً ومعللاً، وموافقاً في مواضع ومعترضاً في مواضع أخرى بما ينطبق مع فكره النحوي.
وتُعدُ هذه الدراسة محاولة لتصحيح ما نُسب لسيبويه من آراء عن طريق الخطأ في كتاب (منهج السالك في الكلام على ألفية ابن مالك)، ولم تكن العناية بهذه الآراء متأتية من خلال العود لكتاب سيبويه وحسب وإنّما كانت ممتدة من خلال الوقوف عليها في الشروح للكتاب فضلاً عن كتب النحو الأخرى التي عرضت لآراء سيبويه، كما لم تكن هذه الدراسة بمعزلٍ عن التعريض لآراء الكوفيين التي لها صلة وثيقة بآراء سيبويه.
