هذا كتاب "تأنيب الخطيب على ماساقه في ترجمة أبي حنيفة من الأكاذيب "، وهو أحد التآليف الجليلة للإمام الشيخ محمد زاهد بن حسن الكوثري، والتي من جملتها:"النكت" الطريقة في الرد على إبن أبي شيبة في رده على الإمام أبي حنيفة. وقد كان إبن أبي شيبه جمع مئة وعشرون حديثاً من أحاديث الأحكام، في آخر مصنفه في باب سماه "هذا ما خالف فيه أبو حنيفة الأثر ". وقد رد عليه قبل الشيخ الكوثري فحول العلماء رداً مشبعاً، إلا أن نكت الشيخ الكوثري أوفى بياناً لما تضمنته تلك الأحاديث من الدلالة على المفاهيم الفقهية المستنبطة منها. وقد أعيد طبع هذا الكتاب مرات، وأراد البعض الرد عليه بكتاب سماه " التنكيل " ولم يتجاسر على إخراجه إلى حيز الوجود في حياة الشيخ الكوثري. إلا أن الله قد ألهمه أن هناك من ينتقده، فرد بمقدمة سماها "الترحيب بنقد التأنيب " وتجدر الإشارة إلى أن هذه النسخة من كتاب "التأنيب" فيها زيادات تمت إضافتها هي من خط المؤلف في نسخة أهداها لبعض تلاميذته، بالإضافة إلى ذلك هناك تعليقات تمت إضافتها أيضاً وكانت قد جاءت في نسخة أحمد خيري من هذا الكتاب، والتعليقات كان إستفادها المؤلف من الشيخ الكوثري. وتمت لإضافتها في هذه النسخة لينتفع بها العلماء والطلبة.
