يعد العصر البويهي من العصور المهمة التي مرت بها الدولة العربية الإسلامية وهذا العصر الذي حكم فيه آل بويه وأقاموا فيه دولتهم في العراق وفارس التي استمرت أكثر من قرن لكن هذه الدولة لم تلقَ نصيبها الكافي فقد تناولها الكثير من المؤرخين بميولهم السياسية والمذهبية متأثرين باقتران إسمها بأحداث بغداد وما آلت إليه الخلافة العباسية من تدهور وضعف في إدارتها إلى جانب سوء معاملة الأمراء البويهيين للخلفاء متممين بذلك ما بدأه القادة الأتراك، تناولت هذا الموضوع بإسهاب الكثير من المصادر والمراجع الحديثة في جوانبه الإدارية والإجتماعية والإقتصادية فضلاً عن الجانب السياسي ، وإذا كان هذا الأطناب في معلومات الموارد قد اختص ببغداد بوصفها حاضرة الخلافة فإن إمارة البويهيين في فارس لم تحظَ بالإهتمام نفسه.
وأن الكتابة في هذا المجال شاقة ومجهدة وذلك لتشعب أحداثها وتعدد حكامها وتداخل حكمهم وفي حقيقة الأمر كان لهذا اللبس والتشابك هو ما دفعني لاختيار الموضوع مستقصياً دور البويهيين في فارس وطموحاتهم التوسعية السياسية فضلاً عن الجانب الفكري المزدهر.
