في خزانة المتحف البريطاني مخطوطة فريدة لمؤلف مجهول، كان حياً سنة 1223هـ/ 1817م، عنوانها (روضة الأخبار في ذكر أفراد الأخيار) تتضمن أخباراً متفرقة عن تاريخ ولايتي بغداد والموصل، بولاتهما وقواهما العسكرية وقبائلهما، واستطرادات واسعة عن الإمارات الكردية: اليابانية، والسودانية، والبهدينانية، مع إشارات ذات شأن عن زعامات كردية أخرى، في مناطق سنجار وأورفه وغيرها.
لم يذكر مؤلف المخطوطة اسمه في مقمته لكتابه، إلا أن أسلوب الكتاب وتبويبه وموضوعاته يشبه الى حد بعيد مؤلفات المؤرخ الموصلي ياسين بن خير الله الخطيب العمري، الذي عرف بغزارة انتاجه في كتابة تاريخ عصره. ولكنه لم يشأ، لسبب ما، أن يُصرِّح بنسبته اليه.
يتألف الكتاب من مقدمة وثماني فصول، سماها مقالات، وخاتمة، وذلك على النحو الآتي: المقدمة في خلق الله تعالى للسماوات والأرض - المقالة الأولى "في ذكر الأنبياء العظام" - المقالة الثانية حذفها - المقالة الثالثة في سيرة النبي (صلى الله عليه وسلم) - المقالة الرابعة "في ذكر الخلفاء الراشدين وبعض الصحابة المكرمين" - المقالة الخامسة "في ذكر خلفاء الأموية" - المقالة السادسة "في ذكر خلفاء العباسية وغيرهم" - المقالة السابعة "في ذكر السلاطين الذين كانوا معاصرين لخلفاء العباسية" - المقالة الثامنة "في ذكر بعض وزراء بغداد من وزارة حسن باشا والد أحمد باشا الى سنة ألف ومائتين...... وذكر بعض وزراء الموصل من (آل) الجليلي ومع بعض الفضلاء والشعراء من أهالي الموصل" - الخاتمة "في ذكر بعض الفوائد". ويبلغ عدد تراجم من ضمهم الكتاب (43) ترجمة.
ولأهمية هذا الكتاب اعتنى بتحقيقه الدكتور عماد عبد السلام رؤوف حيث قابل النص في معلوماته على مصادر عصره، وعرّف بأسماء الاعلام والمواقع والمصطلحات، وضبط تواريخ نصب الولاة، حصر ما أضافه الى النص بأقواس معقوفة وغيرها الكثير....
