وضع التشريع الإسلامي قواعد تنظيمية تتعلق بالمولود منها تسميته وختانه وتحنيكه، وعقيقته، وما إلى ذلك من أمور وأحوال مما يتعلق بالمولود. فمن تلك الضوابط القيمة والقواعد الراتبة: تسمية المولود سواء كان ذكراً أو أنثى، إلا أن الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم رغب في أن يختار الأبوان لولدهما اسماً يزينه لا يشينه، فقد غير اسم فتاة سماها أهلها عاصية، وأطلق عليها اسم "جميلة" فاعتبر الإسلام أن للولد الحق في نعته بالتسمية الطيبة التي تحمل في طياتها المعنى الجميل واللفظ الرقيق المستحسن الطيب الوقع على السمع... هذا الاسم هو عنوان على شخصية حامله، فهو محط رحل. وهدف هذا الكتاب الذي نقلب صفحاته؛ والذي تدوّن فيه المؤلفة مجمل ما وقفت عليه من أسماء الفتيان والفتيات مرتبة مادته من الاسماء حسب تسلسل الأحرف الأبجدية، وذلك حتى يسهل على الوالدين الرجوع إليه كدليل لاختيار اسم لمولودهما. هذا وقد جاءت جميع الأسماء الواردة فيه مشروحة المعنى ليستطيع الوالدان اختيار الاسم الجميل والمناسب باللفظ والمعنى.
