كانت طلائع الفاطميين قد بدأت من المغرب العربي ولم يكن في متناول الدولة العباسية أن تصل إلى تلك الآفاق البعيدة عنهم ثم زحفوا إلى مصر فبلاد الشام وديار مكة فالحرمين واليمن ثم النفوذ الأدبي والديني بعد ذلك في كثير من بلاد العراق وإيران والهند، وكان في العالم الإسلامي خليفتان الأول في بغداد العباسية والثاني في الأندلس الأموية وأصبحت الديار الإسلامية تدار من قبل ثلاثة خلفاء عباسي وأموي وفاطمي في المغرب العربي.
ونلاحظ من خلال البحث أن عهود المُلك من المهدي إلى المعز هي في حقيقتها عهود ترميم وتنظيم يتبعها الإصلاح والتجديد ثم يتبع ذلك كله تقوية الجيش للدفاع والتوسع، وأما في مصر التابعة للدولة العباسية في ظاهرها فقد كانت تتمتع بكل مظاهر الإستقلال وكانت صلتها ببغداد لا تعدو أن تكون صلة إسمية، ولم يكن تفكير الفاطميين لفتح مصر وليد عشية وضحاها فهم منذ يومهم الأول كانوا يعدون سلطانهم بين المشرق والغرب.
وازدهرت مصر بعد أن دخلها المعز وأصبحت محط أنظار العالم الإسلامي في العمران والحياة الإجتماعية والإقتصادية والفنية والدينية، ولكن الظروف اللاحقة الداخلية والإقليمية والعالمية أثرت على هذه الدولة، وهذا ما جاء في مُفَصّل بحثنا المتواضع الذي جعلناه في ثلاثة فصول، ففي الفصل الأول: ذكرنا الفاطميون والحملة الصليبية الأولى وذلك في ثلاثة فقرات الأولى الحملة الصليبية الأولى وموقف الفاطميين منها والثانية الإتصالات بين الفاطميين والصليبيين، والثالثة التوسع الصليبي في بلاد الشام ورد الفعل الفاطمي.
أما في الفصل الثاني: فقد تطرقنا إلى التعاون بين مصر وبلاد الشام ضد الصليبيين بمرحلتين الأولى سنة (505هـ) والمرحلة الثانية سنة (512هـ) وعرّجنا في الفصل الثالث على موضوع الصليبيين ونهاية الدولة الفاطمية.
