تجول في هذا الكتاب على عدة بلدان ومدن من كازبلانكا وطنجة وفاس ومراكش، إلى بيروت وبشري والأرز، إلى القاهرة والجيزة إلى الخليج وإماراته. وتلتقط كاميرا المؤلف مشاهد وحوارات يلفتك إليها بدقة وتتعرف من خلالها إلى مطارات تلك المدن وشوارعها وأزقتها ومقاهيها وسينماتها ومسارحها وفنادقها ومحطاتها وكأنك تراها بعينك.
كذلك تطالعك مفردات اللهجات العامية المغربية والمصرية واللبنانية والخليجية، وتتوقف عندها، تستغربها، لكنك تفهمها، بعد عناء، وتضيف إلى قاموسك جديداً.
كذلك تجد في هذا الكتاب ربطاً مذهلاً بين الأماكن وشاغليها من جهة، وبين تاريخها وثقافتها وحضارتها، ولا يفوت الكاتب فرصة للنقد السياسي أو الاجتماعي، وذلك عنده كثير، إما تلميحاً وإما تصريحاً، يقول عن أبو ظبي، مثلاً: "أعتقد أن أبو ظبي ستفسد أخلاقي، أعتقد أن الناس هنا باردون، ممتعضون، وأن العزلة نتيجة طبيعية للحياة بينهم. اللائي أعجبنني في البداية لم يعدن حتى أيقونات. متابعة حركاتهن ونبرات أصواتهن وما يعملنه بالحياة -ما يدعن الحياة تعمله بهن- جعلهن رموزاً منفرة للطبقة الوسطى ذاتها التي دفعتني إلى ترك القاهرة".
