يأتي أهمية هذا الإصدار من افتقاد المكتبة العربية السياسية لمثل هذا النوع من الدراسات النظرية؛ حيث تقوم الدراسة على افتراض أساسي مؤداه: أن حقل السياسة المقارنة يمثل المحرك المركزي لعلم السياسة، فمن هذا الحقل وفيه خرجت وتفاعلت أهم المدارس والنظريات والأطر المعرفية في علم السياسة على مدى النصف الثاني من القرن العشرين، مما جعل الباحثين فيه يشعرون بأنهم في شراك حقل معرفي يشهد تغيراً مستمراً في محاور التركيز النظرية والمنهجية والمفاهيمية. يتناول المؤلف "المحددات المعرفية للتطور في حقل السياسة المقارنة" بتحديد الإشكاليات المعرفية المرتبطة بطبيعة فلسفة العلم المسيطرة في أية مرحلة من المراحل، ويربط الانتقال بين النماذج المعياري والسلوكي وما بعد السلوكي بمتوالية من التحولات على مستوى المنهج والنظرية في دراسة السياسة المقارنة. كما يوضح "المحددات الواقعية للتطور في حقل السياسة المقارنة" المشكلات الواقعية التي تحدد حركة واتجاه البحث في السياسة المقارنة، وأهمها الصراع الأيديولوجي بين المدرستين الرأسمالية والماركسية، وظهور الدول حديثة الاستقلال، وتغير طبيعة القضايا السياسية موضع الدراسة. ويتناول الاتجاهات المعاصرة في البنية المنهجية لحقل السياسة المقارنة، وكذلك الاتجاهات المعاصرة في البنية الموضوعية لحقل السياسة المقارنة ويقدم مقاربة واقعية من خلال تحليل الموضوعات التي نشرتها مجلة السياسة المقارنة التي تعد أهم دورية أكاديمية عالمية في هذا المجال، وذلك بهدف الخروج بدراسة تجريبية تفحص عن قرب واقع تلك الاتجاهات المعاصرة وأوزانها النسبية وجوهرها. ويناقش أخيراً حالة الحيوية والتجديد التي يعيشها حقل السياسة المقارنة، وذلك رغم ادعاء بعض الباحثين موت هذا الحقل، ولاسيما أمام انتشار موجة التنميط السياسي وفق النموذج الأنجلوسكسوني على دول العالم، إذ إن هذه الموجة مدفوعة بالقوة أكثر من سريانها بالعلم وحقائقه.
