عالم "المقصف الملكي" عالم يمور بمعاناة مثَقف عراقيَ مستلب من الباحثين عن الأمان في المهاجر والمنافي، ومع أنَه هرب من بلده كي لا يشارك في قتال أبناء وطنه. إلَا أن شبح الحرب يلاحقه حتَى في مستقرة الجديد "بيروت". فقد كانت نذر اندلاع الحرب الأهليَة على وشك الوقوع في منتصف سنة 1976م. لكنَ السارد لم يشأ أن يتحدث عنها، فقد أنهى الرواية دون أن يعلمنا عن خلاص البطل، أو نهايته، وحسناً فعل، فهذا المسكوت عنه جعل كلَ متلقٍ(من الباحثين عن النهايات) يختار النهاية التي تتناسب وزاوية قراءته النفسية للرواية. وهي لمحة ذكيَة تدلَ على ما ألمعنا إليه من أن قصي الشيخ عسكر كاتبٌ روائيٌ متمرس فضلاً عن كونه شاعراً موهوباً، وناقداً حصيفاً، لهذا سيجد القارئ الجاد في هذه الرواية جرأة في توصيف ما يجري في هذه المقاصف الليليَة من امتهان لكرامة المرأة العربيَة تحديداً. وما تعانيه بعضهن من ضير الزمن وبشاعته، وتسلَط القهر الإنساني بسبب الحاجة إلى لقمة العيش.
ولكنَه من جانب آخر سيحظى بمتعة الإدهاش التي تجذبه لإتمام النصَ، وعدم مغادرته حتَى ينتهي منه لما فيه من إثارة في الأداء والتوصيل، فضلاً عمَا يمتلكه هذا النصَ من لغةٍ جميلة.
