حين كتبت هذه الرواية كنت أظن أن هذا الزمن سينتهي حتماً ويطل زمن آخر أزهى يلبي كل حاجات المواطن، ويحظى العراقي فيه بإمتيازات لا يحلم بها، عدد النجوم والحصى، لكنني بعد أربع سنوات من (التحرير) تحت ظل المحتل ذهلت، بل تمزقت من هول ما جرى وما سيجري، فإن كل السابقون نفذوا جرائهم تحت جنح الظلام فإن ما يحدث الآن ومنذ الغزو البربري لبلادنا ليفيض عن الوصف، مجازر في وضح النهار، أنهار من الدم، نكوص إلى أزمنة الغبار والحجر، فعمّ سيكتب الأدب غداً؟ عن الجثث في أكوام القمامة، وفي حواشي الأنهار، عن الأبرياء يؤخذون من عبق الأحلام لتغتالهم فرق الموت تحت سمع ونظر السلطة، أم عن علماء العراق تصفيهم قوى غامضة لوأد المسيرة العلمية وإيقاف عجلة التقدم، فأين الدولة وأين السلطة؟
أخجل أن أذكر المزيد عما يحدث في بلدي الذي يدّعون أنه يعيش زمن الديمقراطية والانفتاح على جميع الشرائح والأطياف، ويمكن أن يقال: إن ما يحدث الآن بعد الاحتلال ليست له سابقة في تاريخ العراق.
كنتُ أحلم بوطنٍ يُسمعُ فيه هديل الحمائم بدلاً من لعلعة الرصاص، وتغشى مدياتها ألوان الفراشات والزنابق بدل برك الدماء ويشيع في الأفئدة رحيق المحبة والتسامح والتوادد. فهل سينتصر الحلم والعقل على الجهل والغل?..
