يقول عالم النفس السويسري (يونغ)، إن أكثر الروايات والقصص التي تعود علينا بالنفع عند تحليلها، تلك الأعمال التي لا يعطي فيها المؤلف تفسيراً سيكولوجياً لشخصياته، أو لدوافع سلوكياتها، بل يدع فيها مجالاً للتحليل والتفسير بقصد أو بغير قصد، لأن هذه القصص التي تخلو ظاهرياً من العرض السيكولوجي، من أكثر ما ينبغي الإهتمام به من زاوية علم النفس لكونها تقوم على أساس المسلمات السيكولوجية الضمنية (بعكس الرواية السيكولوجية والتي تفسّر نفسها بنفسها).
وليست الدراسة السيكولوجية التي تتناول مثل تلك الأعمال كما يقول الدكتور سامي الدروبي تقييماً للأثر الأدبي، فهي ليست معنية بالإشارة إلى ما فيه من جمال وقبح، أو قوة أو ضعف، فذلك شأن آخر لا علاقة لعلم النفس به.
وهذه الدراسة التي تتناول علاقة الأب بالأبناء وإن تكن دراسة متحررة من الإنقياد إلى نظرية معينة، إلاّ أنها قد اتكأت إلى درجة ملحوظة على مفاهيم عالم النفس السويسري كارل يونغ ومدرسته، وقد أخضعت عينة عشوائية من نتاج القصة القصيرة في الأردن للتحليل، وفي محاولة لتقصي طبيعة علاقة البطل أو البطلة مع الأب وإنعكاس أثر هذه العلاقة سلباً أو إيجاباً على حياة الأبناء، حيث أصبح من السائد الإعتقاد بأن مشاكل الكبار النفسية من قلق وخوف وعدوان وشقاء في الحياة الزوجية وما شابه تعود في جذورها إلى السنين الأولى من العمر، وإلى نوعية المعاملة والتربية التي تلقوها في كنف أسرهم، وعلى يد الآباء والأمهات الذين يمثلون نماذج قيمية يتقمصها الأطفال، أو يتوحدون بها.
