كأنني أسمع صوت لوي ماسينيون يقول لشباب القاهرة، أو بغداد، أو صنعاء، أو كابول المسلم: لا تتخلّوا عن جذوركم، لا تهجروا الشرق لأجل الغرب، كونوا أنفسكم، التاريخ مُوات حالياً لكم، ابنوا بلادكم، مدتكم، عائلاتكم في صورة الوحدة، ولكن أيضاً اعملوا بكل جهد على معرفة الغرب فيما وراء القوالب النمطية – مثلما فعلتُ أنا نفسي مع الشرق، وكما أحبّ أن يحققها كثيرون مع الغرب: تدمير هذه الصور المزيفة عن الإسلام التي لا يريد البعض منا أن نعرف الإسلام كما هو؛ تخلصوا، من جهتكم وبالمقابل، من الصور المزيفة التي تمتلكونها عن الغرب.
