يقول المؤلف في مقدمة كتابه هذا "عندما يطرح مفهوم تجديد الخطاب يقفز إلى الذهن مباشرة أن المقصود هنا هو تجديد الخطاب الديني، وذلك تمشياً مع النهج العام، والتيار السائد حالياً بالحوار والضغط والنقاش حول هذا الموضوع. ومع اتفاقي فيما يذهب إليه قطاع لا بأس به من المثقفين من أهمية تجديد الخطاب بمفهومه العام. الخطاب الديني، والخطاب السياسي، والخطاب الإعلامي. أتصور أنه حتى الخطاب الخاص بين الأفراد يحتاج إلى مراجعة وإعادة نظر.
نحن في حاجة حقيقية إلى تجديد خطابنا، ليس خطابنا الديني فقط، بل خطابنا التحاوري، في حاجة إلى استعادة القدرة على الحوار والإيمان بأن الاختلاف الذي يمكن أن يكون سبباً لانهيار مجتمعات، هو ذاته الاختلاف الذي يمكن أن يكون أحد أهم عناصر قوة هذه المجتمعات، لو فقط تعلمنا كيف نختلف دون أن ندمر".
ومن هنا فإن ما يقدمه المؤلف في هذا الكتاب هو عبارة عن بعض الرؤى والأفكار الخاصة بتجديد الخطاب بشتى أنواعه السياسي والثقافي والاجتماعي، الخطاب الذي يساهم في صناعة وطن تخلقه أفكار أبنائه لا الأفكار المستورة، وجعله أجمل وأقيم وأروع.
ينبغي أن نبدأ نقداً ذاتياً من منطلق الحرص على وجودنا كقيمة في هذا العالم.
إن الاكتفاء باجترار الماضي هو شكل من أشكال التغييب، وللعملة وجهان، أحدهما يتمثل في التأكيد على مقومات وأسس وتاريخ حضارتنا، والثاني همّه تفعيل هذه الحضارة، وإلا باتت كبطة عرجاء وسط عالم يعيد تشكيل نفسه ولم يعد يكتفي بالركض وإنما تجاوز ذلك بكثير.
إن ما نحتاجه الآن هو وقفة العقل التي نستحضر فيها كل ما أضعناه أو فقدناه من مقومات وأسس لهذه الحضارة، وفي مقدمتها حق الحوار، والاختلاف، والمشاركة في صنع القرار، والحفاظ على حقوق الإنسان، دون أن يخيفنا هاجس أن هذه الممارسة سوف تعود علينا بخوف أو بحزن.
