إن ثورة الفلاّحين في كسروان عام 1859 طمست معالمَها وأطاحت جزءاً كبيراً من منجزاتها ونتائجها الأحداثُ الطائفية الخطيرة والدامية التي شهدها جبل لبنان في العام التالي، وبعد أكثر من مئة وخمسة سنة، وفي خضمّ التحوّلات الكبيرة في العالم العربي، أتى الروائي الفرانكوفونيّ رمزي سلامة، أحد أحفدة "الثائرين" لينفض ويسترجع الأحداث، ويعيد إستقراءها، ويعطيها بعضاً من حقّها على مستوى إعادة الإعتبار للمعطى التحرّري الذي أتت به، بعدما استعاد هؤلاء الثوّار، بجرأتهم وكسرهم للأعراف السائدة مدّة قرون، حقوقهم وكرامتهم، بثورة لم يعرف لها الشرق العربيّ مثيلاً.
وقد رأى الباحث في العلوم الإجتماعية طانيوس شهوان أن هذه الرواية التاريخية "جمهوريّة الفلاّحين" في الفترة التي يوضع فيها تاريخ الشرق وماضيه تحت المجهر، وهي إذ تكتسب أهمّية لكونها تؤرخ لحركة إعتراضيّة قام بها فلاّحو كسروان فيّ القرن التاسع عشر واعلنوا في سياقها أولى جمهوريّات الشرق، تسهم في بناء ذاكرة إجتماعية لكسروان وللبنان على السواء.
وعلى الرغم من تأرجحها بين الواقعيّة والأسطوريّة، لا تزال هذه الحركة الفلاحيّة تكتسب أهمية كبيرة لكونها كانت أولى حركات التحرّر الإجتماعيّ في المشرق العربيّ، إنّ الحاجة إلى إعادة كتابة التاريخ وقراءته تطبع نهوض الأوطان وتجدّدها فيّ أزمنة التحوّلات؛ ذلك أن الشعوب الحيّة، التي لا تاريخ مكتوباً لها، تعمل في الحاضر على فهم ماضيها للإعتبار منه وتحاشي دورات العنف المتكرّرة جرّاء الإختلاف على التاريخ وإستعمالاته السياسيّة.
