إنني لا أخفي أنني ترددت كثيرًا قبل الإقدام على تأليف هذا الكتاب؛ وذلك خشية أن يتوهم متوهم أنه إذا اطَّلع على كتاب أو كتابين أو عشرة كتب... في تحسين المحاكمة العقلية وتحسين أسلوب ممارسة التفكير وفي تنمية الحس النقدي... فإنه يصبح مفكرًا، وهذا بالطبع غير صحيح، لكن الذي جعلني أتجاوز التردد في الشروع في هذا العمل، هو الاتصالات التي تأتيني من كثير من الشباب الذين يرغبون في الولوج في عالم الفكر والتفكير والمفكرين، وذلك بسبب جاذبية ما تدل عليه هذه الألفاظ في هذه الأيام، وقد بذلتُ كل ما أملك من جهد في سبيل جعل أسلوب الكتاب سهلًا وقريبًا حتى تنتفع به أكبر شريحة ممكنة من القراء الأفاضل، لكن بما أنني أعالج موضوعًا معقدًا، فلا بد لي من أن يكون ما أحققه ناقصًا، وأحيانًا مخيبًا للأمل؛ إنني قانع بتعبيد طريق ضيق في قلب بحر من الرمال المتحركة، وإضاءة بعض الزوايا المتحركة، وقانع بإزالة بعض الحجارة من طريق شديدة الوعورة سائلًا المولى وعز وجل أن يبارك في هذا العمل، وينفع به؛ إنه ولي ذلك والقادر عليه.
