يتناول كتاب "المبادئ الأولية لحقوق المؤلف" مواضيع عدة تجيب عن كثير من الأسئلة التي تتبادر إلى الذهن، بشأن موضوع حقوق المؤلف. حيث أفرد المؤلف ثلاثة عشر فصلاً قدم في الفصل الأول منها نبذة تاريخية عن التطورات التي واكبت المسائل المتعلقة بحقوق المؤلف.
ثم تدرج الكتاب في بيان حقوق المؤلف الأدبية والاقتصادية في الفصل الثاني والثالث والرابع ثم عرج في الفصلين الخامس والسادس على الأعمال المشمولة بالحماية ثم حدد حقوق هذه الحماية، ثم انتقل في الفصلين السابع والثامن إلى بيان حقوق المؤلف وهل هي قابلة للنقل موضحاً القواعد العامة لنقل حقوق المؤلف ثم كيفية نقل هذه الحقوق.. كما تحدث الكتاب عن مدة الحماية في الفصل التاسع ثم ما هو مصير مصنفته بعد انقضاء مدة الحماية، ثم يشير الكتاب في الفصلين العاشر والحادي عشر إلى الإجراءات الرسمية الخاصة باكتساب حقوق المؤلف والاعتداد على هذه الحقوق موضحاً أنوع الاعتداد والتدابير التي تتخذ لمعاقبة هذه الاعتداءات. وفي الفصلين الثاني عشر والثالث عشر يصل إلى توضيح حقوق المؤلف الدولية وفي العالم النامي متسائلا كيف تنظم هذه الحماية.
