هذا الكتاب دراسة علمية حديثية تفصيلية لجامع الحنابلة المعروف بالمظفري في صالحية دمشق تحدثت فيه عن بناء الجامع وتأسيسه وخصائصه وفضائله ووصفه وأوقافه وما اصابه من نكبات، منذ إنشائه حتى عصرنا الحاضر.
ثم تناولت دوره الريادي في النهضة الدينية والعلمية في بلاد الشام، فترجمت لأئمته وخطبائه... ثم للعلماء والحافظ والمحدثين والمسندين والمدرّسين المقيمين فيه أو الواردين عليه من البلاد الأخرى-من الرجال والنساء-الذين علّموا أو رَوَوْا الحديث الشريف أو سمعوه فيه.
وقد أرفقت معظم التراجم بوثائق ونصوص للسماعات التي وجدتها على الكتب التي قرئت فيه ويظهر في نص كل سماع اسم للشيخ المسمِّع وسنده، والطلبة والحاضرين والقارئ للسماع وكاتبه وتاريخه.
وقد ختمت الكتاب بذكر أربعين حديثاً منتقاة عن أربعين شيخاً من أربعين كتابا ًمسموعاً بالجامع المظفري، والقصد أن تُقرأ في هذا الجامع العريق ليعود اتصال السند ورواية الحديث فيه.
