هذا كتاب "مختصر الفوائد المكةي"، اختصره مؤلف الأصل الشيخ علوي بن أحمد السقاف الشافعي المكي، و"الفوائد المكية" كتاب لا غنى عنه لطالب علم، ضمنه: أهمية العلم، وأنواعه، وبيان النافع منه للمسلم، وآداب العالم، والمتعلم، وفوائد تحصيل الكتب، ولزوم العلماء لطلب العلم، وضرورة التزام مذهب معين في الفروع الفقهية، وبيان المذاهب الأربعة، وحكم التقليد والاجتهاد، وأقسام المتفقهة، ومذهب العامي، وحكم التقليد في الاعتقاد، ومراتب العلماء، واختلافهم، وبيان أهم الكتب الفقهية عند الشافعية، وتاريخ المذهب الشافعي منذ نشأته على يد الإمام الشافعي إلى زماننا هذا، وكيف وصل إلينا، ودور الشيخين الرافعي والنووي في تحرير المذهب وتنقيحه، وبيان الكتب المعتمدة في المذهب.
في ذكر اصطلاحات فقهاء الشافعية وعبارتهم في كتبهم ومعانيها، وصيغ التحديث عند المحدثين، وأحكام تتعلق بقراءة كتب حكايات مشهورة عند العامة لا أصل ولا سند، ولا فائدة فيها، وحكم الرقى برموز وكلمات غير مفهومة ولا عربية، وحكم رواية الإسرائيليات والموضوعات. وختم بذكر أشعار فيها فوائد لطالب العلم ومسائل مهمة فيه. وقد اختصر عبارته في هذا المختصر، فجاء وافياً بالمقصود، دون تطويل ممل، أو اختصار مخل.
