"الفصل الخامس" فصل أضيف لعمر البطلة، لونه وأبهجه حتى أصبح عمراً جديداً، وهو ليس صيفاً ولا خريفا ولا شتاءً ولا ربيعاً. البطلة في هذه الرواية تفصح عن دواخلها وتبوح بأسرار كتمتها حتى تضخمت ولم تعد قادرة على احتمالها. ولقد شاءت لها الظروف أن ترتبط بقصة حب مع رجل وجدت فيه فارس أحلامها. لكن مع هذا تجد نفسها عاجزة عن الارتباط به فهي في الخمسين وهو يصغرها بعشر سنوات.
