هذا الكتاب بعيد كل البعد عن أن تلتمس سبيله، وأن ندخل في رحابه. فهو كتاب الفقيه الأصولي الشيخ محمود آل ذهب. وهو يتناول دراسة متعمقة لمسائل معينة في أصول فقه الشريعة الإسلامية الغراء، وهو موجه لخاصة الخاصة من الدارسين ممن بلغ مرحلة الاجتهاد أو كاد.
وأصول الفقه موضوع يعالج إعمال العقل والسمع، ويبحث في التدليل والتعليل بما يطابق الشرع الحنيف، ويتناول التفكير في المسائل الفقهية بأسلوب المنطق، ويهدف إلى استنباط الأحكام الشرعية بالاستدلال. ولا يؤهل لاقتحام معاقل هذا العلم والبحث فيه، إلا من تفقه في أحكام الشريعة، وسبر أغوارها، وتبحر في أسرارها، وتحصن بالعلوم العقلية وبالحجج الكلامية.
ومن نظرة عامة لهذا المؤلف ومنهجه، يبدو وكأنه خلاصة الدروس التي كان يلقيها على من تحلق حوله من الدارسين المؤهلين لهذه المرحلة في علم الأصول. ففي الكتاب كثير من لغة الخطاب مثل: "اعلم" و"لا تغفل"... الخ. وهي بلا ريب كلمات قصد بها التنبيه والتوجيه، والحض على المتابعة، وهو أمر سلكه، كما يبدو، علماء ذلك العصر في رسائلهم ومؤلفاتهم وقد كان أغلبها نتاج البحوث والدروس التي يلقيها هؤلاء العلماء على طلبة حوزاتهم العلمية.
