إن محدودية الكتب التي تتناول موضوع "التكافل" أو "التأمين الإسلامي"، جعل هذا الكتاب دليلاً ومرجعاً يقدم رؤية شاملة عن مفهوم "التكافل وممارساته" وفقاً للشريعة الإسلامية ومن دون مخالفتها.
لقد اعتمد المؤلف على خبرته في مجال صناعة التأمين التقليدية، فعرض المشكلات التي تواجهها هذه الصناعة، ثم عمل على إيجاد حلول لها عن طريق التكافل، مستنداً في ذلك على الأحكام المناسبة لها في القرآن والسنّة.
كما أشار المؤلف إلى مبدأ أساسي يقوم عليه التكافل، وهو "المشاركة في الأخطار". وهو مبدأ يشترط تجنب ثلاث ممارسات تعتبر محظورة في نظام التكافل وهي: الغرر والميسر والربا، لأن تجنب هذه الممارسات يجعل أي ممارسة تأمينية متفقة مع الشريعة الإسلامية.
ففي الكتاب دعوة إلى تبنّي التكافل أو الحلول التأمينية الإسلامية، وإلى عدم الأخذ بالقيمة الظاهرية للأشياء.
