القصائد التي يضمها الديوان الثاني، للشاعر، قد كتبت بعد صدور ديوانه الأول، الذي ظهر سنة 1980، أي أن قصائد هذا الديوان باستثناء قصيدة واحدة-هي مختارات من حصاد السنوات العشر التالية لذاك التاريخ... وهذه الفترة هي بداية خريف العمر بالنسبة للشاعر. ففيها أخذت تجاربه ومشاعره تنحو نحو آخر غير الذي كامن تنحوه فيما مضى من عمره... ولذلك آثر أن يسمى هذا الديوان باسم "حفيف العمر". وقد يلاحظ القارئ غلالة من الحزن الشفيف تغلف "حفيف الخريف". وربما كان ذلك شيئاً طبيعياً، نظراً لطبيعة العمر أولاً، ثم نظراً لما مر به من تجارب في هذه الفترة ثانياً.
