هذه الرحلة يوميات مدهشة كتبها فقيد الصحافة العربية على إثر تجواله في أوروبا، خلال الحرب العالمية الثانية، انطلاقاً من بيروت عبر تركيا وشرق أوروبا، وصولاً إلى النمسا وألمانيا في ظلّ الرعب النازي الذي خيم على العالم. طاف مروة في الأقطار الأوروبية وعيناه مفتوحتان، ليس على السياسة وحدها، بل على المدن والطبيعة والزرع والتربة والمأكل والعادات وسمات الوجوه ووسائل المواصلات وشروط السفر وتقلّب العملات وطرق العبادة وصنائع السكان واختلاف اللغات وتباين اللهجات.
وبالإضافة إلى كونه كتاباً ممتعاً في أدب الرحلة، فهو وثيقة للقوانين السياسية التي حكمت المنطقة الممتدة بين بيروت وبرلين، بدءاً بالمشرق العربي الممزق، مروراً بتركيا القلقة والبلقان المتفجر، وصولاً إلى الدولة الألمانية العظمى. إنه مرجع قيم للتفكير السياسي الذي طبع ما يسمّى "الرعيل العربي الأول" الذي تأثر بـ"المعجزة" الألمانية، وتحالف مع أسيادها لمحاربة الانتدابات الفرنسية والبريطانية في المنطقة، ثم هاجر إلى دول المحور، أثناء الحرب العالمية الثانية، ليعود بانطباعات عميقة أثرت في مجمل نظرته إلى العالم العربي.
