تحولت الأحساء في غضون العقود الأربعة الماضية من بيئة يغلب عليها الطابع الريفي إلى حاضرة متمدنة، كادت أن تختفي منها مظاهر الريف ومهنه وتراثه، وصحب التحول هذا إضطراد في التحول الإجتماعي من السذاجة والبراءة إلى ما يغلب على أهل المدن من التعقيد في الأذواق والأفهام والأهداف.
وقد تسارعت هذه التحولات متخذة وتيرة متصاعدة في الأعوام العشرة الماضية تمظهرت في تضاعف الإنفتاح على الثقافات الوافدة من تقنية ومناهج تعليم وأفكار وأذواق وطبائع، سرّع فيها سهولة الإتصال المباشر وغير المباشر.
تسعى هذه الدراسة لرصد التحولات المستجدة في الأحساء على صعيدين مهمين يشكلان المظهر الإجتماعي العام والعلاقات الفكرية والإجتماعية السائدة.
