وإذا ما عدنا لما بين دفتي هذا الكتاب والذي جاء تحت عنوان "سنوات التنافر والتباغض من المحيط إلى الخليج" نجد أنه يضم بين طياته ست وستون مقالة تتعاطى في مجملها مع مجمل قضايا العرب خلال خمس سنوات هي بالطبع القضايا الأكثر أهمية التي شغلت العرب خلال تلك الفترة، وفي هذه المقالات نلحظ الحضور العربي الشامل في اهتمامات فؤاد مطر المعتادة. من اليمن في جنوب شبه الجزيرة العربية، إلى الصحراء الغربية في أقصى المغرب العربي. من هموم الخليج الذاتية إلى هواجسه الإقليمية. من العلاقات العربية -العربية إلى العلاقات العربية- الدولية. ومن مواقف الحكام والحكومات إلى علاقاتهم بعضهم ببعض إلى علاقاتهم بمواطنيهم. وليس في الأمر ما هو جديد على الكاتب. بل هو الثبات على المنهج، مع الحرص على التجدد في التناول وعلى المراجعة في الموقف على ضوء ما استجد من تطورات في الأحداث.
