إن الطالب والمثقف العربي في هذه الأيام في أشد الحاجة لكتاب يضبط حركات العمل، إذ إنه يقضي معظم عمرة في المدارس والجامعات ويتخرج وهو عاجز عن تصريف الفعل تصريفاً صحيحاً في جميع صيغة وأحواله، وهذا يعود لأسباب، من أهمها أن المدارس لا تولي اهتماماً خاصاً لمسألة تصريف الأفعال، وذلك بإلغاء أو تقليل الحصص المدرسية المخصصة بتعريف الأفعال، أو بعدم إعطاء المدرس اهتماماً خاصاً لهذا الموضوع أثناء تدريسه مادة اللغة العربية.
وكتاب الأفعال "لمحمد بن عمر بن إبراهيم" يعتبر من اقدم المعاجم العربية في هذا الباب، وهو الذي فتح هذا الباب، وجاء من بعده ابن القطاع وتبعه. ولأهمية هذا الكتاب اعتنى "إبراهمي شمس الدين" بتحقيقه، في البداية قام بوضع مقدمة تتضمن مبادئ أوليى تشمل التعريف ببعض المصطلحات التي استخدمها المؤلف في كتاب كمعين الفعل ولام الفعل.
وجاء الفعل، وهو ما يسمى بميزان الفعل، والتعريف بالأفعال (الماضي والمضارع والأمر والأفعال الخمسة، والفاعل، والمفعول به، والفعل المجرد، والفعل المزيد)، وكذلك التعريف بالاشتقاق بعد المقدمة أثبت بترجمة وافية للمؤلف. أما في المتن فقام بشرح ما في الكتاب من غريب اللغة، أو صعب المتناول، كما وقام بتخريج جميع الأحاديث النبوية، والآثار تخريجاً وافياً، وضبط نص استناداً إلى كتب الحديث المعتبرة، بعد هذا قام بتخريج جميع الآيات القرآنية الكريمة على المعجم المفهرس لألفاظ القرآن الكريم.
لا شك أنه عندما يقرأ الطالب والمثقف العربي هذا الكتاب، أنه سيجد ما يبحث عنه من معرفة بضبط حركات الفعل، لأن هذا الكتاب يعتبر أقدم المعاجم العربية في هذا الباب، وهو الذي فتح هذا الباب، وجاء من بعده ابن القطّاع وتبعه.
