يتناول هذا الكتاب أهمية البحر الأحمر الإستراتيجية والإقتصادية خلال العصور القديمة والوسطى، إبتداءً بالفراعنة ومروراً بالإغريق الرومان والدولة الإسلامية في مختلف العصور، وإنتهاء بسلطنة المماليك وتعاونها مع الدولة العثمانية لمواجهة الخطر البرتغالي.
