إن تنظير أرسطوطاليس عن الكوميديا لا يقل أهمية عن تنظيره عن الفن التراجيدي، ذلك لأنهما يعكسان لنا فلسفة أرسطوطاليس العامة "الفكرية والجمالية" التي تحكم النص الدرامي الإغريقي؛ إذ يعد أرسطوطاليس أول من درس الفن المسرحي دراسة فلسفية لها قيمتها في تاريخ النقد المسرحي، حتى أن كثيرين ممن تلوه، من شعراء ونقاد وفلاسفة، قد اعتمدوا على تنظيره، في ثنايا دراساتهم النقدية. لذا عرفوا باسم (شراح أرسطوطاليس). ومن الجديد بالفكر أن المؤلف اعتمد في عرضه لهذه الدراسة الموجزة، على المنهج الوصفي، متناولاً معالجته الدراسة في عدة محاور هي: طبيعة المحاكاة في الكوميديا، نشأة الكوميديا وتطورها، العناصر الكيفية للكوميديا، مصادر المضحك في الكوميديا، وظيفة الشعر الدرامي الكوميدي، تعريف الكوميديا. وذلك على غرار المحاور الأساسية التي ارتكز عليها أرسطوطاليس عند عرضه لنظريته عن التراجيديا. أما المادة التي اعتمد عليها في إنشاء هذه الدراسة فمرجعها إلى: الفقرات المتناثرة التي أوردها أرسطوطاليس عن الشعر الدرامي بعامة وعن الكوميديا بخاصة في مبحثية عن الشعر والخطابة، وما توفر من دراسات متخصصة استقر أن العناصر الكيفية والأجزاء الكمية، من واقع النصوص الكوميدية الإغريقية، وذلك بغرض إتمام الفائدة المرجوة من هذه الدراسة.
