هذا الكتاب يتناول حياة ابن رشد "الفيلسوف الأول" و "الفقيه الكبير" و "السياسي الحكيم" الذي لا يزال يتربع على عرش العقل العربي حتى يومنا هذا بلا منازع، وكان يؤمن بأن الفلسفة هي الطريق للوصول إلى الله، وتكامل العلم والدين، وكان رأيه في الدين أنه أحكام شرعية لا مذاهب نظرية، وفي هذا الكتاب سنتناول مفهوم العقل عند ابن رشد، الذي أعتمدت عليه أفكار النهضة الأوروبية وبالتحديد ما قاله في إعطاء الأولوية للعقل، حتى سماه الغرب بــ "سلطان العقول والأفكار" كما نتناول في الكتاب قصة حياة ابن رشد ومأساته في عصره أو ما اصطلح على تسميته "نكبة ابن رشد" الذي نادى بتكامل العقل والإيمان، وتحرير العقول، ومنهجه الفقهي والعلمي، وتوفيقه بين الشريعة والفلسفة ونصرته لقضايا المرأة، ودفاعه عن حقوقها، كما يضم الكتاب أشهر معارك ابن رشد الفكرية خاصة معركته الشهيرة مع أبي حامد الغزالي رغم أنه لم يعاصره هذا الكتاب هو قصة فيلسوف كبير لم يكن فقط، ضحية زمانه، وإنما ضحية ما تبعه من أزمنة لم يقدر فيها المسلمون هذا الرجل قدره، ولا يزالون يتجاهلون دعواته لإصلاح العقل المسلم.
