تعتبر الزراعة صناعة من أقدم الصناعات، وأهم ما تتميز به الزراعة أن الطبيعة تعتبر شريكاً للمالك إذ يرجع إليها الفضل الأكبر في الإنتاج الزراعي، وتنعكس مشاركة الطبيعة في الإنتاج على القيمة الإيجارية للأرض الزراعية ولهذا يدفع المستأجر للمالك إيجاراً يتوقف على درجة خصوبة الأرض المؤجرة.
على ان إستغلال الأرض إستغلالاً زراعياً يتطلب إعدادها وتمهيدها وبذر البذور وعندئذ تؤدي الأرض وظيفتها الطبيعية في ظل عناية المزارع حتى يحين وقت جني المحصول.
وعندما يكون من الملائم تربية الماشية أو إنتاج الألبان فإنه يصبح من الضروري تخصيص جزء من الأرض كمزارع للماشية، وفي هذه الحالة فإنه بجانب العمليات الزراعية الخالصة التي تكون جزءاً من الأعمال الأصلية للمزرعة يجب العناية بالماشية وإنتاج الألبان والعمليات الأخرى الملازمة لها.
وقد أخذت الدول الأجنبية تهتم بالمحاسبة الزراعية منذ فترة بعيدة جداً بسبب خضوع أرباح الإستغلال الزراعي لضريبة الدخل، كما هو الحال في إنجلترا مثلاً بحيث لا تقدر هذه الأرباح تقديراً جزافياً إستناداً إلى القيمة الإيجارية للأرض المنزرعة وإنما تقدر على أساس الأرباح الحقيقية للعمليات الزراعية.
لهذا كله أصبح موضوع الحسابات والتكاليف الزراعية موضوعاً جديراً بالعناية والدرس في لبنان. استعرض المؤلف في هذا الكتاب الأكاديمي محاسبة النواحي المختلفة للنشاط الزراعي دراسة نظرية تعليمية تساعد الطالب على فهم كيفية سير المحاسبة والزراعية وبالتالي إعداده للعمل في هذا النوع من المشروعات.
