شهد العالم مجموعة من التغيرات التي شملت هيكل النظام الدولي وقيمه وبرز كل ذلك في هيئة أنماط سلوكية جديدة، أدخل النظام الأحادي القطبية محل نظام توازن القوى الثنائي القطبية، وحيث سعى القطب المتفرد بالهيمنة على العالم إلى تداول قيم الديموقراطية والحرية وحقوق الإنسان واقتصاد السوق. كما انعكس هذا التفرد في مساعي القطب الواحد لجمع الدول الكبرى تحت لوائه والعمل على احتواء الدول المعادية والضغط على الدول التي تحاول التحرر من قيوده لتحقيق أكبر قدر من أهدافه وغاياته. وبدون شك فقد أدى هذا إلى خلل في النظام الدولي ما سيؤدى إلى إحداث تغيرات تفضي إلى نوع من التعددية القطبية في المستقبل يكون قادراً على تلبية مصالح جمع الدول بشكل متساو.
وفي محاضراته التي تتناول قضايا تاريخية معاصرة يتناول المؤلف المشكلات التاريخية التي تعانيها القارات الثلاث (أسيا وأفريقيا وأوروبا) حيث عرض وبمنهج تحليلي لدراسة فكرة الوحدة الأوروبية، كما يبحث في فكرة صربيا الكبرى، أما في ما يخص آسيا فقد بحث المؤلف مسألة كشمير والصراع بين الهند وباكستان، بينما ركز على مشكلة القرن الإفريقي ومركزه الاستراتيجي وأثر ذلك على تقلب المواقف السياسية والدولية.
