ثمة تاريخ للظاهرة المسرحية في العالم، يرشدنا إلى معرفة سماتها النظرية والتطبيعية، المكونة لعالمها الخاص. ولمعرفة عالم المسرح هذا، يفيدنا التاريخ بدوره أيضاً في تدارس تجربتنا الوطنية مسرحياً، بارتباطها القومي منذ مراحل تأسيسها الأولى وحتى نضجها الأكاديمي والشعبي. إن آفاق الدراما العالمية موغلة في القدم إذ إن (أريون-600ق.م) ترك مبادئ أولية طورها (فرينخوس 511-472ق.م) لتستقر عند رائد الدراما اسخيلوس الذي فاز بجائزة المأساة (عام 496ق.م) في بلاد الإغريق.
وفي هذا الكتاب آثر المؤلف الذهاب بعيداً في مظان الظاهرة المسرحية لإلقاء الضوء على جذورها، القديمة تلك وهي تتبرعم، كنظرية تحتمل الاجتهاد حسب مراحل التاريخ التالية بالرغم من ثوابتها، بل وبفضل هذه الثوابت نفسها هذا وأن الثقافة التي تريد أن تستكمل آفاقها ينبغي أن تؤكد الجهد النقدي في الأدب والفن، حيث يؤدي هذا النقد دور المحفز والمنظم للظاهرة الإبداعية: والمؤلف بدوره ومن خلال بحثه هذا يطمح إلى تأسيس نقد يتوافر أكاديمياً على تحليل مكونات الخطاب المسرحي من حيث: فلسفة المسرح، ونظرية الدراما وفنون الكتابة والإخراج والتمثيل، والنقد، وفن المشاهدة.
وتجدر الإشارة إلى أن بحثه هذا حفل ببعض الأسماء "الإخراجية" الأجنبية التي عرضها للإفادة من جهدها التطبيقي فوق خشبة المسرح، وقد تمت ترجمة جوانبها الإبداعية (من مصادر باللغة البلغارية) في محاولة جادة لتحقيق تكاملية العرض المسرحي والارتقاء به إلى مستوى جمالي رفيع وفق مقاربات الحداثة المسرحية في العالم.
