تأتي هذه الدراسة لتعزيز دور الحوار ووظيفته في بنيتي النص والعرض، إذ يبقى الحوار رافداً أساسياً وجوهرياً للدراما، وإن اختلفت الطوائف في التعامل مع الحوار، لكنها جميعاً تعكس إشكالية الحوار وتبلور أكثر تساؤلاته تداخلاً مع فكر العصر، وفي ضوئه نستشف أهمية دراسة موضوعه الحوار بوصفه لغة تتخذ مديات ومساحات أوسع عند العرض حيث يكون الحوار في العرض جزءاً من لغةً العرض المسرحي.
ومن هذه الزاوية يكتسب البحث أهميته ودوره في الكشف عن الوظيفة الجديدة للحوار عند العرض وتداخله مع تقنيات اللغة المسرحية التي تعيد الصياغة الجمالية للحوار، وتكشف عن دلالات جديدة، يصعب الغوص فيها والوقوف عندها إلا عندما يكون المخرج مدركاً لأبعاد العملية الجمالية للحوار، الذي تتحرك دلالاته بنفس قوة الحركة الإدراكية لمخرج العرض المسرحي. واعتمد الباحث على مشاهداته الميدانية، بالإضافة إلى ما كتب عن المعروض محيطاً بآراء المؤلفين والمخرجين ليعزز وجهات نظره بالعينات التي تم اختيارها لأنها أكثر قرباً من موضوع البحث.
وقد قسم بحثه إلى ثلاثة فصول تعلق الأول منهم بالفكرة والحوار، وفيه تحدث أربعة محاور: 1-الفكرة بين النص والعرض، 2-المخرج المؤلف، 3-المخرج المفسر، 4-مخرج العرض. أما الفصل الثاني فقد تناول الحبكة والحوار واحتوى هذا الفصل على ثلاثة مباحث هي: 1-الحبكة، 2-الحوار بين حبكتي النص والعرض، 3-روائية حبكة العرض المسرحي. أما محور الفصل الثالث الأخير فيعالج الشخصية والحوار، وتم تقسيم الفصل إلى المباحث الآتية: 1- الشخصية وعلاقتها بالفكرة والحبكة، 2-الشخصية والعرض، 3-حوار الشخصية بين النص والعرض.
