هذا الكتاب: أصدر الكاتب في عام 1992 الجزء الأول من سلسلة دراساته الأدبية تحت عنوان ( شموع في الضباب ) درس فيه عشرين كاتباًَ و أديباً و شاعراً سورياً, و في عام 1994 أصدر الجزء الثاني من هذه السلسلة تحت عنوان ( من أعلام الأدب العربي الحديث ) درس فيه خمسة و ثلاثين كاتباً و أديباً و شاعراً سورياً و عربياً, و بعد أن تابع العمل في هذه السلسلة, استطاع أن ينجز دراسة خمسة و أربعين كاتباً و أديباً و شاعراً ينتمون إلى مختلف الأقطار العربية و المهاجر الأمريكية, و بذلك يصل مجموع الأعلام الذين درسهم في الكتب الثلاثة إلى مئة بينهم الشاعر, و الناقد, و الكاتب, و الباحث, و المؤرخ, و اللغوي, و المعجمي, و الموسوعي, و المسرحي و المفكر و الصحفي و الأستاذ الجامعي.... و قد أدى كل واحد منهم دوره في بعث نهضتنا الأدبية و الفكرية على أكمل وجه, منذ أواخر القرن التاسع عشر حتى نهاية القرن العشرين.
