امتازت مدينة الموصل كبقية الحواضر العربية الإسلامية بغزارة علومها المتنوعة والشاملة لمعظم ما أنتجته قرائح العلماء والأدباء وفي جميع العلوم والمعارف، ولما كان القرآن الكريم بوصفه أول المصدرين الرئيسيين للتشريع الإسلامي ولمكانته العظمى عند عموم المسلمين، فقد اعتنى به المسلمون الأوائل، ولا سيما أهل العمل منهم ممن برز في علم القراءات القرآنية، في صيانة قراءته وحفظ نصوصه من التحريف والتغيير. وقد استمرت مكانة هؤلاء العلماء المرموقة في مركزية الإشعاع من حيث الصدارة في الأخذ والعطاء في السماع والقراءة ومنح الإجازات.
ولأهمية هؤلاء العلماء استعان المؤلف في عملية البحث والتقصي عن رجالات القراءات في كتابه هذا (تراجم قراء القراءات القرآنية في الموصل) على المصادر المعروفة في الساحة المعرفية والصريحة في دلالة عنوانها كتاب غاية في الأهمية في طبقات القراء لابن الجزري، وكتاب معرفة القراء الكبار للإمام الذهبي، وكانت هذه المصادر قد حوت رجال القراءات ولا سيما ممن ينتمي إلى الموصل أو درّس بها أو تخرّج فيها منذ أقدم العصور وحتى زمن من أدركهم المؤرخون حسب عصورهم ممن اسعفتهم المعلومات بذكرهم ومراسلتهم.
