"مِن أشرفِ العلوم الدينية علمَ الحديث النبويّ، ومِنْ أَجَلّ معارفِه تمييزَ أصحابِ رسولِ الله صلى الله تعالى عليه وآله وسلم ممن خلف بعدَهم، ومعرفتُهم وتمييزُهم لكونهم "هُداةَ البشرية بهَدْيِ رسولِ الله صلى الله تعالى عليه وآله وسلم، وهم أمثلةُ تطبيقِ هذا الدّين، وسيرتُهم تملأ القلوبَ يقيناً، وتحثُّ الهممَ على الجهاد والعمل، وتُلهِبُ الحماسَ في النفوس"، ولكون الحديثِ المُرْسَلِ لا يُعرف إلا بمعرفةِ الصحابة مِن غيرهم.
أُفْرِدَ في هذا الكتاب فَصْلٌ فيمَن اختُلِفَ في صحبتِه، لإحتمال كونِهم رأوُا النبيَّ صلى الله تعالى عليه وآله وسلم، ودخل هؤلاء في عامّ ترقيمِ التراجم، لسهولة البحث عن الأسماء عموماً، كما دخل ضمن الترقيم مَن ظُنّ أنه نزل حمصَ وليس كذلك.
