مما لا خلاف أن المكتبة العربية بحاجة للمزيد من المراجع التي تهتم بدراسة الخدمات الأساسية سواء كانت خدمات مجتمعية أم إنتاجية. والتي يمكن أن تفتح آفاقاً بحثية أمام طلبة الدراسات الأولية والعليا وتحديداً في العراق والوطن العربي بالتركيز على جانب الخدمات ووسائل تقديمها وضعف مؤشراتها الخدمية، إبتداءً من كفاءة توزيعها المكاني على القطاعات السكانية ومروراً بكفاءة أدائها الوظيفي ومدى تلبية حاجات المجتمات السكانية منها ودراسة طبيعة العوامل الجغرافية المؤثرة في ذلك، إحتوى هذا الكتاب على ستة فصول رئيسية، يستعرض فصله الأول: مفهوم وأهمية جغرافية الخدمات منهجياً، والذي ينتهي بمحاولة التعرف على هذا الفرع الحديث النشأة في مجال الدراسات الجغرافية وتحديد مقدار أهميته والسعي إلى تطوير أساليبه، فيما غطى الفصل الثاني: مفهوم خدمات المدن ومنهجية البحث فيها من خلال إستعراضه للعديد من المتغيرات المكانية والموقعية لتوقيع الخدمات في المدن ومركزاً على دراسة الخصائص المؤثرة في ذلك.
وخصص الفصل الثالث:منه: لبحث أنواع الخدمات المقدمة للسكان مركزاً على الخدمات المجتمعية منها وطرق تقسيمها ودراستها ومعرفة قطاعاتها الحضرية المتنوعة، أما الفصل الرابع: فقد خصص لدراسة خدمات البريد والإتصالات وتحديداً في العراق لأهميتها البالغة وبيان الأضرار التي لحقت بها جراء ظروف الحرب، فيما درس الفصل الخامس: خرائط الخدمات مركزاً على أهميتها وتحديد اصنافها ومعالجتها في التنظيم المكاني للخدمات باستخدام الوسائل العلمية الحديثة، واخيراً خصص الفصل السادس: لدراسة الخدمات من منظور اساليب التنمية الحضرية المستدامة التي باتت تشكل الأسس العامة في تنمية المجتمعات الحضرية بتقنياتها المختلفة.
