في عام 1890 عثر على لفافة من أوراق البردي تحتوي على مخطوطات لـ13 مسرحية "ميم". كتبها هيرونداس الكاتب لإغريقي الذي عاش في مدينة الإسكندرية. حوالي عام 270 ق.م. وتثبت هذه المسرحيات قدم هذا الفن العريق الذي عرفه الإنسان في حضارات وثقافات مختلفة، والذي يعد تياراً رئيسياً في الحركة المسرحية حتى يومنا هذا، وهو شكل تعبيري متعدد الأوجه يقوم على ممثل خلاق يجيد التعبير بلغة الحركة عن المضمون المسرحي، وتتضافر في هذا الفن عناصر الحركة والنص والموسيقى والإضاءة والديكور لتصنع عملا تعبيرياً يستطيع من خلاله الممثل أن يجسد أدق الحالات الداخلية النفسية، ويرى بعض الباحثين أن الميم ليس مجرد مدرسة أو أسلوباً درامياً لكنه هو الرحم الذي تخلق فيه فن المسرح.
