كتاب أحداث البصرة هو عبارة عن مؤلف ممتع ضم بين سطوره وقائع وحروباً تاريخية جرت أحداثها في نهايات القرن الحادي عشر الهجري، حين توجه الروم من اسطنبول إلى البصرة للاستيلاء عليها ولا يفوت صاحب الكتاب أن يلم بأماكن البصرة المعمورة في تلك السنوات، كالمشراق، وسوق الغزل، ومحمد الجواد، وعضيبة، ونبة الجبل، ويتحدث عن الإبلة النهر الذي ينساب شرقي البصرة في القرية المسماة، المطوعة، وهذا النهر يطلق على البصرة أيضاً. أما المناوي فهي القلعة الفاصلة بين البصرة وشط العرب.
ويمكن المؤلف أن الذي حفر العشار أحد ملوك الفرس ويعرج على بريهة، وتومة العباس، والسيمر، وأهل الدير، والحويزة، والمكسار، وهي مرسى السفن وموضع ما يدخل إلى البصرة من متاع الهند والسند واليمن والبحرين، ويتحدث عن ابن "افراسياب" الذي اشترى البصيرة من حاكم رومي بثمانية أكياس والكيس ثلاثة آلاف محمدية.
