لا يبعد القول بأن الطب هو من أقدم العلوم التي بدأت حركتها مع الإنسان منذ أوائل وجوده، فهو من العلوم اللصيقة بالحياة والتي ترتبط بها ارتباطاً مباشراً، فعلم الطب يعني بسلامة الجسد التي تعتبر لها أهمية كبرى، حيث يتحدد على أساسها نوع وحجم النشاط البشري وفي المقابل فإن علم الفقه يحظى بأهمية قصوى أيضاً، باعتباره يعالج السلوك البشري وتشخيص مدياته قانونياً ويوجهه باتجاه الخير والسعادة الدينوية والأخروية. وهذا أن العلمان-الطب والفقه-في الغالب يسيران في خطين متوازيين، إذ كلا منهما يسعى لتحقيق الصحة والسلامة للبشر، إلا أن أحدهما هدفه الصحة البدنية والآخر هدفه الصحة السوكية.
بيد أن هناك بعض التقاطع بين ذينك العلمين، فإنك ربما تواجه مسألة تمثّل من ناحية مفردة من المفردات الطبية ومن ناحية أخرى تعتبر ممارسة بشرية لا بدّ للفقه من أن يقول قولته فيها ويحدد موقفه منها سلباً أو إيجاباً. ومن هنا يتضح المبرر لتسليط الأضواء على مثل هذه الموضوعات وتخصيص الدراسات لها، ومجلة فقه أهل البيت عليهم السلام التي أخذت على عاتقها نشر البحوث العلمية الهامة سيما ما يرتبط بالقضايا المعاشة والمعاصرة كانت قد نشرت على صفحاتها وضمن أعداد مختلفة مقالات وبحوثاً علمية فقهية متنوعة وفي موضوعات شتى، وارتأت أسرة التحرير أخيراً أن تقسم هذه البحوث على محاور تقسيماً موضوعياً، وأن تنشرها تباعاً بصورة كتاب للمجلة يحمل عنوان "قراءات فقهية معاصرة" والمؤلف الذي بين يديك يمثل الحلقة الأولى في هذه السلسلة والتي تدور حول محور الفقه ومعطيات الطب الحديث. حين يضم مجموعة أبحاث استدلالية فقهية قيمة قدّمها مجتهدون كبار وخبراء متخصصون في الفقه، وهي تدور بمجملها حول موضوع موحد هو المواكبة الشرعية للتطور في مجال الجينات والهندسة الوراثية".
