إن شيوخ آل الصباح، هم من قبيلة من القبائل العربية، الصريحة النسب؛ وكان لهم من عهد بعيد، حق الزعامة، على القبائل العربية الضاربة، في ربى نجد، وبادية الشام؛ وامتازوا عن غيرهم من أشراف العرب وزعمائهم بميزات شتى جعلتهم فوق غيرهم، سؤدداً ومكانة وعزّاً ومجداً وفخاراً، على ما هو متداول، خلفاً عن سلف، وبين حفظة العرب، وما حفظه العرب إلا مؤرخوهم، وراوو أخبارهم، ومذيعو مفاخرهم ...". هذا ما يقوله عبد المسيح أنطاكي بك صاحب جريدة العمران المصرية / 1908م في كتابه الموسوم بـ "الآيات الصباح" في مدح صاحب السمو أمير الكويت الشيخ مبارك باشا الصباح، وهو كتاب توجه به إلى سمو الشيخ المبارك بعد أن قدم له بكلمة تليق بآل الصباح ودورهم وتفانيهم في خدمة المسلمين، حيث عرض المؤلف نبذة عن كل واحد منهم والمرحلة التي تولى الحكم خلالها وهم الشيخ مبارك باشا الصباح، الشيخ جابر مبارك الصباح، الشيخ صباح جابر الصباح، الشيخ محمد الصباح، وقسّم كتابه إلى بابين: الباب الأول في إمارة الكويت والشيخ مبارك باشا الصباح، والباب الثاني يتضمن ديوان المباركية الكبير في المدائح التي نظمت لمعالي سموه، حيث يقول جامع هذا الكتاب: "لقد نظمت في جملة ما نظمته، في مدائح سمو مولاي وولي نعمتي، الشيخ مبارك باشا الصباح، (29) قصيدة، على عدد حروف الهجاء، وجعلت كل قصيدة على حرف من حروف الهجاء تبتدي وتنتهي فيه، وجعلت بيوتها (29) بيتاً، وسأنشر كل قصيدة منها في أول قصائد كل حرف". وعلى هذا توزع ديوان المباركية على الترتيب الألفبائي لحروف اللغة العربية وتبتدىء بالهمزة وتنتهي بالياء. وجاءت على بحور الشعر العربي الموزون والمقفى شعر التفعيلة.
