يا نفس ما أعظم جهلك تدعين الحكمة والذكاء وأنت أشد الناس غباوة وحمقاً، فمات لك لا تستعدين للموت مع أنه أقرب إليك من كل قريب. أما تتدبرين قوله تعالى: "اقترب للناس حسابهم وهم في غفلة معرضون" (الأنبياء، الآية: 1).
ويحك يا نفس... إن كانت جراءتك على الله لاعتقادك أن الله لا يراك فما أعظم كفرك. وإن كان علمك بإطلاعه عليك فما أشد وقاحتك وأقل حياءك. أفتظنين أنك تطيقين عذابه؟ هيهات هيهات. جربي نفسك فاحتبسي ساعة في الشمس أو في بيت الحمام، أو قربي إصبعك من ا لنار ليتبين لك قدر طاقتك وتحملك على العذاب.
ويحك يا نفس كأنك لا تؤمنين بيوم القيامة وتظنين أنك لو مت انفلت وتخلصت... هيهات. أتحسبين أنك تتركين سدى إن كان هذا في إضمارك فما أكفرك وأجهلك! أما تتفكرين أنه من ماذا خلقك؟ أما تستعدين للشتاء بقدر طول مدته فتجمعين له القوت والكسوة والحطب، أفتظنين أن زمهرير جهنم أخف برداً وأقصر مدة في زمهرير الشتاءً؟ كلا لم يكون.
يا نفس!! أما تنظرين إلى الذين مضوا قبلك بنوا وعلّوا ثم ذهبوا وخلوا وكيف أورث الله أرضهم وديارهم أعداءهم. أما ترينهم كيف يجمعون ما لا يأكلون ويبنون ما لا يسكنون؟ يبني كل واحد قصراً مرفوعاً إلى السماء ومقره قبر تحت الأرض فهل في الدنيا حمق أعظم من هذا؟ فبادري ويحك يا نفس فقد أشرفت على الهلاك واقترب الموت. فمن ذا يصلي عنك بعد الموت ومن ذا يصوم عنك بعد الموت ومن ذا يترضى عنك بعد الموت.
يا نفس!! أما تعلمين أن الموت موعدك والقبر بيتك والتراب فراشك والدود أنيسك والفزع الأكبر بين يديك؟ يا نفس!! أما تستحين! تزينين ظاهرك للخلق وتبارزين الخالق في الباطن. أتستحين من الخلق ولا تستحين من الخالق! ويحك يا نفس لو عرفت نفسك حق المعرفة لظننت أن الناس لا يصيبهم بلاء إلا بشؤمك. والعجب كل العجب أنك تفرحين بزيادة مالك ولا تحزنين بنقصان عمرك وما فائدة مال يزيد في عمر ينقص؟
ويحك يا نفس ما أوقحك، ويحك يا نفس ما أجهلك وما أجرأك على المعاصي. ويحك يا نفس أما لك بما مضى قبلك عبر، أتظنين أنهم دعوا إلى الآخرة وأنت المخلدين، هيهات هيهات ساء ما تتوهمين. فاتعظي يا نفسي بهذه الموعظة واقبلي هذه النصيحة فإن من أعرض من الموعظة فقد رضي بالنار وما أراك بها راضية ولا لهذه الموعظة واعية.
