والمعادن الحديدية وهي عبارة عن سبائك من الحديد المخلوطة مع الكربون وعناصر أخرى ومنها السليكون والفسفور والكبريت وغيرها من المواد.
إن العلم الحديث قد طور صناعة المعادن لاستخدامها في شتى المجالات الحياتية للإنسان وأصبحت من أساسيات أسلوب الحياة العملية للفرد والمجتمع والترابط التجاري بين الدول بعضها ببعض.
