لعل هذا التصور هو الذي قد يدهش لأول وهلة عندما يجد مثل هذه الدراسة الحالية عن النبات والفلاحة والري عند العرب، إذ يمكن أن يتساءل بينه وبين نفسه، أني لهؤلاء البدو سكان الصحاري أن يكونوا أصحاب نبات وفلاحة وري؟، صحيح أن الدراسة، عبر صفحاتها المتعددة، تقوم بتقديم البراهين العلمية والأدلة الواقعية على أنهم بالفعل كان لهم باع طويل في هذا القطاع، لكننا نود التنبيه هنا إلى أمرين: اولهما أن العروبة لسانا وثقافة قد امتدت - كما أشرنا - لتشمل بلدانا عرفت بالزراعة، مثل العراق والشام ومصر وغيرها، ثانيهما أن العرب في خلال عصور الحضارة الإسلامية الزاهرة خضعوا لهذا القانون الحضاري الذي يؤكد أن التقدم الحضاري هو منظومة متكاملة يستحيل أن تقتصر على مجال أو أكثر دون سائر المجالات، ومن هنا فإن العرب إذا كانوا قد أثروا الحضارة بفقه وشريعة وأدب وشعر ودراسات لغوية وفلسفية، فقد أثروها كذلك في المجالات العلمية المتمثلة في شئون شتى تجئ في مقدمتها الزراعة.
أما فصول الكتاب فهي كالتالي:- الفصل الأول: المكانة العلمية للعرب في مجال النبات والفلاحة والري، الفصل الثاني: النبات والفلاحة والري عند عرب الجاهلية، الفصل الثالث: النبات والفلاحة والري في القرآن الكريم، الفصل الرابع: في صدر الإسلام، الفصل الخامس: النبات في العصور الإسلامية، الفصل السادس: الري، الفصل السابع: الفلاحة.
