يعتبر التراسل من أهم وسائل الاتصال عبر المسافات، وبالرغم من ظهور وسائل تقنية متطورة في العصر الحديث، كالهاتف، والتلكس، والبرقيات، فإن الرسائل بقيت محتفظة بأهميتها في الدور الذي تؤديه.
وكتابة الرسائل علم وفنّ، إذ لها أصولها، وقواعدها وتقاليدها، على أسلوب الرسالة، ومنهجها، ومخططها تتوقف الغاية منها في كثير من الأحيان، وذلك من ناحية التأثير على نفسية المرسل إليه.
ولقد قمنا بنشر كتاب "المراسلات التجارية" بالعربية والإنكليزية، فلاقى رواجاً ملحوظاً، فأردنا إتمامه متطرقين إلى النواحي الأخرى التي تستخدم فيها المراسلات.
وعليه جاء كتابنا هذا وقد قسمناه إلى سبعة أبواب على النحو التالي:
-الباب الأول: رسائل الأهل والأصدقاء.
-الباب الثاني: رسائل الحب.
-الباب الثالث: رسائل التهنئة.
-الباب الرابع: رسائل التعزية.
-الباب الخامس: رسائل العتاب واللوم.
-الباب السادس: رسائل الحجز في الفنادق.
-الباب السابع: متفرقات.
وقد حاولنا في كل باب من أبوابه أن نستقصي كل ما يكتب فيه من رسائل مخصصين له نموذجاً أو أكثر من الرسائل، وحريصين أن يكون هذا النموذج دقيقاًً في تعابيره، منطقياً في تسلسله، موجزاً في عباراته، معبراً عن غايته أحسن تعبير.
