اشتمل القرآن الكريم على سور كثيرة تضمنت كل سورة منها عدداً من الآيات تناولت مختلف الأمور التي تهم المسلم في الحياة الحاضرة وقد يتطلب الأمر الاسترشاد بآية معينة لمعالجة مشكلة ما، ويلزم للاستدلال على مكان هذه الآية في المصحف أما الإلمام الكامل بجميع الآيات عن طريق الحفظ وإيجاد وسيلة ترشد إلى الآية المطلوبة بطريقة سهلة وسريعة إلا وهي الدليل المفهرس وقد تعددت الفهارس طبقاً لنوع البحث فمنها ما يبحث عن الآية مهتماً بموضوعها، وآخر يستدل عليها بواسطة لفظ وكلمة معينة وردت بها وثالث ترتب فيه الآيات بالنظر لأولها وهو موضوع هذا الدليل الذي بين أيدينا، والذي حرص فيه واضعة على أن تكون جميع الآيات كاملة كما وردت في المصحف نظراً للتشابه بين كلمات بعض الآيات.
كذلك يمكن للباحث بصرف النظر عن مستواه العلمي استخدام هذا الدليل بسهولة وبسرعة. ولتحقيق ذلك روعي في ترتيب الآيات بعض القواعد التي تسهل البحث وتمنع اللبس، كاعتبار أل التعريف في صلب الكلمة، واعتبار التشكيل أساساً للتمييز الكلمة. هذا ويمتاز هذا الدليل المفهرس بأنه أتم حصر جميع الآيات بطرق إحصائية دقيقة تضمن ورود جميع آيات سور القرآن كاملة غير منقوصة لآية أو لعدة آيات نتيجة خطأ ما.
وفيما يلي بيان بهذه الإحصائيات: 1-بيان بسور القرآن حسب ورودها في المصحف وعدد آيات كل سورة ومكان نزولها وترتيبها النزولي. 2-بيان بكل من السور المكية والسور المدنية مرتبة حسب نزولها. 3-بيان بعدد الآيات التي يشملها كل حرف من الحروف الأبجدية لكل سورة من سور القرآن.
